The story behind The P.L.A.Y. Experience.
Playtime Adventures began with an Australian Shepherd.
For most of his life, I loved him deeply—but if I am being honest, I often felt like I was failing him.
I thought I was doing everything right. We hiked mountains. We spent entire days outside. I walked the Franconia Ridge Loop with him, which is an 8–9 hour hike, and I thought that if I could just tire him out physically, that would be enough.
But it never felt like enough.
At the time, I did not fully understand what he needed—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
I did not understand that what looked like “nipping” was often herding instinct. I did not understand that what looked like excitement was sometimes anxiety, overstimulation, or a dog desperately trying to make sense of the world around him.
I did not understand how much he needed routines, purpose, predictability, problem-solving, and a job to do.
I knew he needed exercise.
What I did not yet understand was that he also needed his mind worked, his instincts honored, and his emotions supported.
As he got older—and especially after he passed away—I found myself wishing I could go back and do things differently. I wish I had understood more. I wish I had known how to better support who he was instead of trying so hard to simply manage his energy.
I cannot go back and change that for him.
But I can use what he taught me to change things for other animals.
That is the heart behind Playtime Adventures.
It is why I care so deeply about helping dogs feel understood instead of “difficult.”
It is why I pay attention to whether a dog is anxious, overstimulated, under-stimulated, frustrated, tired, uncomfortable, or simply needs a different outlet.
It is why I care about routines, enrichment, sniffing, movement, confidence-building, and helping dogs express their natural instincts in healthy ways.
It is also why I created The P.L.A.Y. Experience™—because animals need more than just the basics.
Because when we truly understand what an animal needs, everything changes.
The bond gets stronger.
The frustration gets smaller.
The home feels more peaceful.
And people stop feeling like they are failing their pets.
I see so many people who love their animals deeply, but feel overwhelmed because they do not know why their dog is struggling, why their cat is acting out, or why things feel hard at home.
Sometimes it is not because the animal is “bad.”
Sometimes they are bored.
Sometimes they are anxious.
Sometimes they are under-stimulated.
Sometimes they simply need someone to recognize what they are trying to say.
That matters to me because I know what it feels like to look back and wish you had understood sooner.
And it is not just dogs.
Cats deserve that same understanding too.
Cats are often some of the most misunderstood animals. People assume that because they are independent, they do not need much—but cats need enrichment, movement, hunting opportunities, play, novelty, and exploration too.
They need tunnels, toys, climbing, foraging, wand play, new scents, leaves from outside, pinecones, cardboard boxes, and opportunities to engage with the world around them.
A bored cat is not “bad.”
A bored cat is simply asking for more.
That is why I care so much about creating experiences that help cats feel fulfilled too.
Playtime Adventures exists because I know what it feels like to love an animal deeply and still wonder if you are doing enough.
I know what it feels like to wish you had more time, more knowledge, and more understanding.
And now, I want to help other people have that understanding while they still can.
